Team Trixie

With just a few weeks to go until the final of Strictly Come Dancing 2014 I have finally chosen my favourites. I say finally but I was probably at the same stage last year, selecting Abbey and Alijaz as my favourites and winners after Mark and Iveta were knocked out of the competition. For the reasons below, Pixie and Trent (Team Trixie) are my favourites and I hope they win.

The Missy Project

In June it was announced that Michelle Gomez was going to appear in Doctor Who. The announcement came just days before scenes from the finale were filmed at The Friary off Queen Street in Cardiff. The article on the Doctor Who website called her The Gatekeeper of the Nethersphere. The combination of this enigmatic name, her elaborate Victorian costume and images from filming of her surrounded by Cybermen for the finale suggested that she’d be playing a major role throughout the series or have some sort of narrative arc.

Basically it was clear that she was going to have more of a role than other guest stars this series. On an sidenote, it’s interesting to note that out of the guest stars announced on the website, white actors like Frank Skinner (Perkins), Tom Riley (Robin Hood) and Keeley Hawes (Ms Delphox) had prominent roles and a lot of screen time as opposed to non-white actors like Foxes (Jazz singer) and Sanjeev Bhaskar (Colonel Ahmed) who had fleeting appearances.

At the end of the first half of the finale Dark Water it was revealed that Missy was the Master (a female regeneration). While some fans were in uproar about the gender change timelord, I was more disappointed in the reveal and the subsequent acting in Death in Heaven.
